are the long blondes indiepop? I would have thought they were more indie pop in the way all these new indie bands are indiepop, like as indiepop as the chiara l's are.

i still think they're alright though, i dunno I lost track them once I left leeds and they got big. I remember seeing them in leeds and markie parallelograms sang with them and all these hipsters were like "who's this bald guy?", those were the days eh.

I liked a couple of tracks of theirs a lot - I still think 'Fulwood Babylon' is the best thing they've ever done. What I find offputting is the forced coolness of their references, y'know, 'Anna Karina' and all that kind of thing. And as a frontwoman, Kate just seems to try too hard live. It was almost embarrassing seeing them live for that reason. Having said that, I'm inquisitive to hear their new stuff, I'd probably go and see them live again, if anyone else was going and that.

The drummer lad's a nice chap too. Despite the taking his top off during gigs.

It appears they've changed the single:

"Contrary folk that we are, we have decided the first single of our new
album "Couples" will now in fact be 'Century'. The single will still
be released on 24th March on 7" and download, backed by 'The Unbearable Lightness Of Buildings'. The B Side inspired by Jannis Kounellis' art work 'Untitled' (1979) which was previous available in
the 'Tate Tracks' project.

You can hear the first play of 'Century' on Steve Lamacq's 'In New Music We Trust' show on Radio One this Monday (11th Feb) between 9-10 pm:

The Long blondes one sounds like blondie meets human league I quite like it on first airing but we shall see, at least they aren't doing the same thing again...

You can hear the new single on myspace too here...

http://www.myspace.com/thedeadeyedbitches

It says "Everything I Touch" as the track on myspace. That was the working title for Century, the new single, i'm told.

That's probably the greatest thing I've ever heard. But I do have a robot fetish.

I like to think that the hipsters all got a bit moist when they saw me and from that moment on renounced their stupid hipster ways and embraced their inner shambling buffoon.

How come I never got proper famous as the Bald Bez of the Long Blondes? There really is no justice in the world of young people's popular beat music.

I like the Long Blondes a lot. When I say like, I mean really, really, really like the Long Blondes a whole lot, and then some. So much so that I'm going to see them in Berlin in a couple of months. Yay!

Oh, and I am quite partial to the new track. And whoever said 'Fulwood Babylon' is the best thing they've done is just about on the money.
you're just too obscure for me

Agreed on Fulwood Babylon. I live near Fulwood, just off Fulwood Road in fact, so I think about that song a lot!

I didn't like the new single at all at first. But over the half a dozen or so times I've heard it it's really grown on me. It's been stuck in my head all morning.

Well, they kicked off their tour tonight with a nice little show in New Cross, played, i guess, the whole of the new album, Lust in the Movies and Giddy Stratospheres and that was it.

There were a few overheard criticisms on the way out, most notably people in general agreement that Kate may well have been miming. I wasn't really paying enough attention to tell, mostly because, as has already been said, they're just DULL live.

Best thing about tonight, it only taking about 10 minutes to get home afterwards.

Worst thing about tonight, the hour wait between support act and the Long Blondes coming on stage.

I quite like the first couple of tracks on the album, but the by-a-mile standout for me is the stunning 'Round The Hairpin'...absolutely amazing sounding, quite dense sounding, whispered vocals... amazing.

Wooo, Giddy Statospheres just came on the radio as I was reading this thread. Spooky!

They played a set of entirely new songs at Fuzz Club the other week and I was very disappointed. Mind you, the sound was rubbish. I saw them again on Saturday at a little gig (Navvy's EP launch) in Sheffield. Again, they played just new songs, and Giddy Stratospheres, and I thought they were generally ace. The sound was much better, the band seemed to have lots more energy, and I really liked most of the new songs, especially 'Here Comes the Serious Bit'. I'm looking forward to the new album again now.

I've listened to the new album about four times today and I think it's ace!

I don't really see it as a massive departure. Lyrically, it's the same territory and melodically they're still using the same kinda motifs. It's just the arrangement is really quite different.

I guess it's inevitable that some people are gonna miss the One And Never Again type indiepop immediacy...

Aye...the production is different in feel but a lot of the stylistic tropes remain. The only one that feels out of their box is Round The Hairpin, and that's amazing.
