I'm having a sneaky listen to the new lp and it's magnificent... there's a lightness of touch to it and yet it's so affecting... deep even (if I can use the word 'deep' without sounding like a long hair)

I'm nearly having a little cry here (I'm not but I feel very emotional, fizzing with bitter caustic emotion, something verging on defiance, optimism even) because, as daft as it sounds, it means a lot to me that this lp is so very good and it means a lot to think that dan may be- on the strength of this- considered more than just this troubled little bloke, this curio, this novelty, this footnote... I've always believed him to be a great songwriter who writes songs that evoke so much and ring so true, as unsettling as some of those truths can be... fuck it, some people will get it, some people won't

I feel kinda' sorry for those that don't

there's something very beautiful about this record

there's something very necessary and vital about it

The single "She's My Yoko" is stunning - although it made me want to cry!

Wish some people on here would spend a little more time on here praising Dan than damning him. He is, after all, one of the people who invented indiepop - the very thing we are supposed to celebrate here!

I do my best, I don't think he means much to most people here, I don't know if that's an age thing or what

I think the songs are fucking magnificent, even the 'tricky ones', I kind of hope that's enough... I don't know, I'd stick dan somewhere between billy childish and daniel johnston, right up there, I can wax lyrical all I like but I don't think anyone gives a fuck what I think

Join the club ;-)

I think Dan's writing is superb. His songs will last. That matters.

The new album arrived on my doorstep on Saturday, so I'm just giving it a second listen now.

If anything, Dan sounds WAY more together on this than anything he's done for years. She's My Yoko is incredible, and My New Tattoo would have been amazing if it were a proper song, rather than 90 seconds of genius followed by SKRONK. Sadly, though, I just don't think it's as good as My Dark Places, which just makes me feel like a bit of a voyeur.

Then again, nothing will top their cover of Mr. Brightside. I mean, come on...

I love the Television Personalities, warts an all (then again, I will be 45 soon, lol) !

I can't understand why people don't seem to rate "my dark places" more. I think there are some magnificent songs on that album ...

I must get that new album NOW !

I rate it very highly- 'she can stop traffic' is kind of achingly busily sexy and 'tell me about your day', 'I hope you're happy now' and 'there's no beautiful way to say goodbye' are heartbreaking/beautiful

on the subject of tvp's covers I can remember them playing a SAW medley (not the neverending film franchise, the chart pop smash production team), they definitely played it at my 21st birthday do at the square one in 'arlow... dan was never gonna' be respectable... like him, hate him, but you'll never change him, little dan treacy was never going to be respectable

tay-tay-tay-tay, etc

A very brave record. Not that I can listen to it that often, but it is fabulous.

What a great interview!

Sad that they have to explain who Mo Tucker and Jordan are!
Cheers!

I meant it's sad that people who ought to be known internationally are evidently not, while the world's media is full of vacuous so-called celebrities without an original idea between them
Cheers!

In the meantime John Robb gets a pass as a journalist and a reliable witness. It's a crazy topsy-turvy world, I'll admit that.
