I sometimes think that they are.

The combination of Kerrie's voice and the fast guitar strumming is almost perfect.

Do those two Library comps cover everything they ever did?

Oh, and Bart & Friends was also quite brilliant.
I've just ordered two copies of "I was lonely 'til I found you" from Fraction, seemed like a good payment for putting record sleeves together if the girl doing that is also the girl you want to convince you're a top bloke.

Aw! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Matt! I am not supposed to be on anorak (or on any other site) right now, so this is gonna be very quick. Yeah, the Cat's Miaow is the most BRILLIANT band ever! Not enough words to describe their BEAUTY.

They wrote songs about love and despair, loss and regret, with such a unique emotion and great honesty. Their melodies are fluttering, fragile and ethereal, the vocals dreamy - Bart and Kerrie is possibly the best boy/girl indiepop duet I've ever heard. Their song titles speak volumes about their brilliance: "You left a note on the table", "Let me brush the hair from your face", "I can't sleep thinking you hate me", "Do you think it will snow tonight?", “Don't worry this isn't about you"... And their gently jangly guitars will remind you of the Cannanes or early Sarah bands.

The Cat's Miaow are tender and unspoiled and will remain untouchable! And I've only said that for just 3-4 groups so far (The Smiths, the Go-betweens, the Field Mice and the Heavenly).

It's hard not to ADORE them. They've stolen my heart for ever. And their genius still continues to shine through!

Ach, thank you, Matt for creating this thread.
I slice the surface here beside you/Lungs filled liquid yell I love you/Sound moves further underwater
Deep and dark my submarine bells groan in greens and grey/Mine would chime a thousand times/To make you feel okay..

the first time i heard a cat's miaow song, i realized they were possibly even better than i'd ever imagined...

their name had haunted me for years, and somehow, w/o hearing a single note, i just knew that their music had been written just for me...

OMG!! I didn't know that there is a cat's miaow myspace! excellent choices!! It's the first time I've heard this version of "Hollow Inside"! It's just MESMERISING...According to Bart this is the best song they've ever written which is so untrue because all their songs are equally amazing! To me, even their covers are better than the originals.

It's also great to see their complete discography including those first legendary tapes and singles. Do you happen to know if any of their cassettes or singles are still available somewhere? I would give half of my cd collection for a handful of them. This sleeve cover of the Third floor fire escape view "7 is brilliant.

I know exactly what you mean... Their songs have haunted my dreams ever since I heard their "Songs for girls to sing" compilation. I think they are the soundrack of my life and I know other people, fans of the Cat's Miaow, who feel exactly the same. I guess it's the ethereal voice of Kerrie, one of the most ADORABLE and SWEETEST girls of indiepop. Her and Pam Berry! Shapiros is another of Bart's fantastic side projects. You can't beat Bart's jangly guitar and Pam's dreamy voice...Once you have listened to their entire song collection again and again during long and boring train journeys (as I did last week) the only thing you want to do (to quote Morrissey) is to get your favourite cover and print it onto your t-shirt!! (btw are you Teresa from the fabulous Haircuts? you know that your voice, music, sleeve covers remind me of the cat's miaow so much?!)

I emailed Bart a log time ago asking if he had any tapes left. He didn't )':

And yeah, there is this energy to the Cat's Miaow that just kinda fills me. They might just be my favorite band. Them and the apples in stereo.
And yes, Kerrie and Pam are amazing! Most Unique/ beautiful voices of indie pop.

Also, i think the cat's miaow/ Shapiros is the best music is the world to drive to!

when i first set about my search for the cat's miaow, i went right to the source by contacting andrew withycombe. he was kind enough to send me the original copies of 'songs for girls to sing' and 'a kiss and a cuddle'... and well, the rest is history i guess...

(and to answer your question, yes i'm from the haircuts :D ... thanks so much for the lovely words. you have no idea how nice it is to hear other ppl validating the purpose behind the [unimportant] work that we do, even if it's beyond my own apprehension... you really are much too kind [blush])

here is my favourite cat's miaow cover:

Yes yes yes!!! Pam berry and Kerrie!!!!!! My favorite women all-time!

Also agree that the songs seems to be written to me, about me, about everything and everyone. They are more important to me than a encyclopedia or religion will ever be! (I guess they in some way are a religion.)

I would gladly die at the hands of the FBI if it means being in a Cat's Miaow cult.
Is there love in the sound of a closing door?
