I've seen Fucked Up on three occasions, and I'd have to agree that not only does Pink Eyes appear to be a cool character, he seems like a funny guy. What's this SSS band like?

SSS is my mate Mark's band. They're on Earache, and i guess they're part of this new wave of thrash/hardcore crossover stuff. They're pretty darn good at it though - similar stuff to Municipal Waste, only less about partying and drinking, and more about skating and rollercoasters.

Second album's out now anyway. Worth investigation if you like that kinda thing! I do.

[quote="everard"]defiance, ohio & madeline tour

That is simply great news, Defiance, Ohio is probably my favourite band from that scene. It's just love.

there's a new defiance, ohio download-for-donation ep coming out later today, money goes to the icarus project

edit: and it's fucking great! defianceohio.terrorware.com/icarus

i understand this reaction, because there are a lot of really bad folk punk bands out there, and bad folk punk is just about the most painful crap to listen to -- but neither defiance, ohio nor this bike is a pipe bomb are really folk punk at all; they definitely don't claim to be & i don't think they ever have. their popularity means they could kind of be held indirectly responsible for all the bad stuff they've inspired, but they're just ace punk bands.

I'm with daniel on the folk-punk score.

There's an awful lot of rubbish gruff punk bands out at the moment as well, aren't there?

Has anyone heard The Don Ramos Players? I'd be interested to know what folk think of them.

there ARE an awful lot of painfully mediocre gruff bands out there, its true

don ramos... are ok if you don't mind stuff thats highly derivative, in my opinion.... if you can get past that, they do what they do pretty well, but i don't really get excited about it, personally

got a ticket to see The Stupids & The Hard Ons co headline the underworld end of this month, really excited about this, not seen the stupids since the mid 80s and The Hard Ons since the early 90s. The Hard Ons did go a bit rock in their later days so am hoping they play more of a punk/hardcore set.

just a quick reminder that the defiance, ohio/ madeline tour starts this time next week (dates are a few posts above -- the slight change is that 21st is now sheffield, 22nd is leeds (afternoon) & manchester (evening)).

there are tickets onsale for the london show at the gaff, but i assume the rest are pay on the door.

was a bit disappointed by the giant haystacks/ young offenders split lp ... not bad, but i see why these g.h. recordings hadn't been released until now.

limp wrist & criminal damage play next month! and hard skin in reading!

i kind of don't get the appeal of lemuria. i've got the album + singles comp & they're solid songs, but no spark. nothing different from lots of the indie rock bands of the early/mid 90s. guess i should go to one of the shows because people do rave about them.

I thought they were a bit hohum on record but I saw them in Southampton when they were over last time & thought they were great live. Will definitely see them again here next month.

Last night i saw Lemuria, who were awesome. Then i met Joe Erg, who said some really nice things about my old band (i didn't even know he'd heard of them) and complimented my Shellac t-shirt.

So i'm in a really good mood, despite having slept in a funny position so that my neck is really sore and won't move. Fun!

LEMURIA were great in Southampton on friday despite a shortish set 7 the fact that the club they played in was full of absolute cocks!
LIMPWRIST in Brighton were amazing last night!
