Just got back from visiting a cemetery, then listening to every single indie pop song in my library (plus a Don McLean song) with "cemetery" or "grave" in the title.

I was listening to some of the bands that people had put on their Indietracks wishlists, ones I hadn't heard before, and I really liked Ivory Past. Initforthemoney mentioned them,

And I noticed that "Ivory Past" is the title of a Felt song,

"Passing Through" - The Foxgloves

The person who put that on youtube has quite a lot of pop! video/audio there, including from the Orchids/Chesterfields/Suncharms show and from the Glasgow Weekender,

I'd almost forgotten how killer this chorus is.

"Still Life" - Maple Leaves (from Glasgow Popfest, December 2010)

I think the playing and singing on that are just perfect.

This weekend has been all about mighty slinky French pop duo The Pirouettes

The-Pirouettes-Léo-and-Victoria-music-french-band-groupe-EP-photo-by-Anouk-Boyer-Mazal.jpg

The Pirouettes are Vickie Chérie and Leo Bear Creek

Before we get to The Pirouettes, let's talk a little about Leo...

His name rang some bells with me and I couldn't place it but Google is my occasionally helpful often mostly morally repugnant friend, but this weekend it came good... Leo Bear Creek was a member of Antsy Pants. the Plan-It X band that included Kimya Dawson and Angela Spencer amongst it's number

You must remember Antsy Pants... from the 'Juno' soundtrack and this evergreen stone cold anthem to DIY doings

And here's Leo himself performing 'Vampire'

Fast forward a few years to 2011 and here's Leo and Vickie singing a sort of mission statement for The Pirouettes

Fast forward a few more years to last year and here's The Pirouettes doing some great awkward but great dancing in this video for 'L'Escalier'

And there's yet more awesome dancing from the band in this slick and stylin' and joyous video from 2013

I've ordered their long players 'Carrément Carrément' and 'L'Importance Des Autres' from their Bandcamp because I love them so, and I'm sure you will want to too (if you haven't already):

I wish I had more confidence and had bought the socks *sadface*

Guys, watch this cute video for Limosna by Natalie Lafourcade and then go buy the album, Mujer Divina (a tribute to Agustin Lara). It's really improved my life and I think it will do the same for you.

"Treason" - The Bats, in Tufnell Park on the 17th of June. Recorded by edwardlaws.

I can see they also played "Miss These Things" and "Block Of Wood" and "Tragedy", all great older songs.

I still can't make out about 90% of the lyrics to this song, but it's one of my favorites.

I really like this Rebekah Del Rio song that played on Twin Peaks last week,

It creeps up on you: first it seems sort of sweet, she's recalling a treasured memory. Then she dips into Spanish for a bit and when she switches back to English it's turned tragic.

For some reason I'm reminded of this Julee Cruise song from the original run of the show, which starts out being about nothing, as far as I can tell, and then describes a picnic for quite a while.

A cover of a Strawberry Switchblade song.
