yunta hair by the lucksmiths - a perfect little slice of sunniness!
1 wasn't for the money
2 wasn't for the show
3 is GO! GO! GO!

Did anyone mention Gaze's Eric Idol? 74 seconds and so full of all the right kind of indiepop energy. People in the more developed countries can listen to the song on last.fm here.

My contribution to Anorak revival: bump some decent threads that haven't been touched for five years in the hope that new contributions have become possible in the interim.

Short songs!

Primal Scream - Velocity Girl. 83 seconds. There's a longer version (119 seconds) recorded for a Janice Long session that I was going to say sounded 'wrong', but I just gave it another listen and it's alright.

Buzzcocks - Love You More. Fantastic dead end on the word 'cuts'.

I love short songs. They're the best kind of songs!

Pretty much all of the songs by Avocado Baby are less than two minutes long which is why they're one of my favourite bands and Milky Wimpshake did two old Avocado Baby songs last night which was totally awesome!

Also Lesbo Pig!

Yay, my favourite thread.

Ooh, there is this extraordinarily pretty song on Palomica's album called 'Sea Air/Headache', which starts off soundscapey and then it turns into a indiepop delight and it's only 54 seconds. Fifty-four seconds!

'Not If It's To A Love Song' by Ace Bushy Striptease too - under two minutes of <3 <3

And that Frida and Ale song, 'One More Time' - that's a brilliant shorty.

At least half of the First Base album is under two minutes and amazing. 'You Can Come Over' = one of my favourite songs ever.

And have we talked about Dear Nora?

Pollard's endless supply of genius half-songs is helpful here:

soft revolution wrote:In terms of joyous pop hit, The Foolishness That We Create Through Love Is The Closest We Come To Greatness is a 6 minute long 2 minute pop song.
I missed this observation the first time around - it's so perfect! I've often found myself ALMOST putting this song on many a mix and then thinking "eh, it's kind of too long for a mix". You know how it goes, you always over-analyze songs on a mix. But when I just hear the damn thing I don't really notice the length. Funny tune! They just didn't want to let it go.

Sneeze is always the band I think of when it comes to great short songs. Love 'em.

For those of us who still make the occasional actual mix tape, it's always nice to have an arsenal of good short songs to round out that last minute of the side.

I stumbled on a rich vein of short songs via an email from Art is Hard records, who later this month will release this short-but-sweet Breakfast Muff song on some sort of hand cut record situation. I will be god damned if I can get a soundcloud to embed, but luckily the band have some spiffy stuff on bandcamp as well. "Older Guy" is a particularly strong mixtape rounder-outer.
