The more recent 'indie' sound is thus:

Oh, and they announced they were going to call the 'full band' stuff Lowtide from now on, not Three Month Sunset. Wha'ever.

"When the daily parade of the troubles you made gets you down, just consider the fate of the wide open space from town to town" is a nice bit of writing.

Felt - Fortune

The lyrics, the percussion, the guitar solos .... I dunno it reminds me of my past and past lovers :/

^Gold Mine Trash version juxtaposed with scenes from the videogame Uncharted: Drake's Forture.. an interesting combination

I could put this on a loop. It builds and builds and then, bah, finishes as quietly as it started.
It will be hard to replace this song as my current favorite, of this epic scope, anyway.

You know that whispered "...two, three, four" in 'Shame' by The Butterflies of Love? I am convinced people must have died in the making of it.

That little riff in the middle of 'Golden Shower' by The Boy Hairdresser always makes me feel warm and lovely.
And we just can't wait to make more mistakes and to fluff our breaks, and to stuff our faces with cake.

The outro of this song gives me major goosebumps, and the first time I heard it I almost jumped out of my skin. Also, "The Seer" makes me shiver in the face of it's immenseness.
"I don't want a sound to pretend that it's a bucket, or that it's president, or that it's in love with another sound. I just want it to be a sound."

It's sort of great when you feel like that, isn't it. I think sometimes, when it's been
a while, that it might not happen again.
It never stopped feeling like this. RIP.

Been listening to 'People Get Real' by Saint Etienne for the first time in ages, and the gentleness of it, the tune and the words, and way the first verse is almost whispered in your ear... *shivers*

"People Get Real" is the perfect pop song, although I'm not sure what it's about exactly. "Foxbase Alpha" is about love and desire I think, from the hopefulness of "London Belongs To Me" to the heartache of "Carnt Sleep". Parts of "People Get Real" fit that idea, "Talking, taking me back to/The other side of your dreams" for example, but other parts don't, "Don't tell me this is precious/Don't tell me this is soulful" most obviously. There's a Saint Etienne Melody Maker interview from 1995 where Bob Stanley says this about "People Get Real",

"It's about the way that when people stick to a certain kind of music, like acid jazz or soul, they're considered "authentic" and real. People being really pofaced about stuff getting taken seriously, whereas, if you don't take yourselves too seriously, everyone takes that at face value and thinks you're superficial."

Still that doesn't seem to fit very well with the other songs on the album so I wonder if I'm missing something, in particular because even though they don't take themselves too seriously Saint Etienne have clever ideas. Probably my favourite of those is this from the sleeve notes to the "Finisterre" film,

""Finisterre" is all about our London - John Nash and Berthold Lubetkin, Hendon FC, Hampstead Heath and the New Piccadilly café. London like the 19th century never happened, just a straight line from Beau Brummell to Bauhaus."

The most obvious idea of time in "Finisterre" is the imaginary day in London, starting in the suburbs at dawn, catching the train to Victoria, moving around the city and then heading home the next morning, but to have that second, hidden idea as well - London like the 19th century never happened - is pretty great.
