Song x sounds like song y

Post by humblebee » Wed May 27, 2015 14:19

Have we got one of these threads already? Sorry, if we have.

I have just realised that the verse from 'It's a Girl's World' by Tompaulin sounds DEAD LIKE the verse from 'Love of the Common People' by Paul Young.

Listen!

Or is it just me?

Camera Obscura - Frenchy Navy has a bit that sounds a lot like 'Embarrassment' by Madness.

Great album though "Lost In Light Rotation" is, I bet there's a host of bands waiting to contact their lawyers if it ever took off. This is the most obvious one, though I'm sure there are others:

Heh, when I was little I *loved* 'Love of the Common People' and hearing that Tompaulin tune always used to stick it on my mental jukebox for days after. It's the same structure only maybe on a different key, right? Or something.

These two choruses sound quite similar...

I'm sure it's the Aislers Set that have a song that sounds like "Deutschland Deutschland über Alles".

The first line of 'The Red Door' does have a striking similarity. Don't think it goes any further than that though.

Some more:

See also (can't be arsed to put them up) - "Wrapped Up In Books" and Cliff Richard - "Out In The Country"

Allo Darlin' - "My Heart is a Drummer" and Cyndi Lauper - "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"

"Travelling Light" by the Tindersticks, one of my favourite songs ever, always makes me think of (the slow bits of) Donna Summer's "On the Radio".

This is a bit of a stretch, but the first line of the chorus of "Neon Sign" by Imaginary Pants reminds me of the first line of the chorus of "King of the Surf Guitar".

Whilst reacquainting myself with Paul McCartney's back catalogue, it struck me how similar the intros to 'Magneto And Titanium Man' and 'The Boy With The Arab Strap' are.

Just be nice to me.

Possibly just me.

And we just can't wait to make more mistakes and to fluff our breaks, and to stuff our faces with cake.

It's also got the Alone Again Or brass break. (Lifted by the dullard Ian Brown for one of his solo tracks).

Special Easter edition. There's definitely something in the choruses here...

What is it with Cliff and indiepop?

Listening to The Hidden Cameras tonight it struck me how the start of Golden Streams also sounds (to me) like the start of Money For Nothing by Dire Straits. I even hummed "I want my MTV" in the intro.

I can see the similarity, but it's a bit vague. Mostly, it makes me want Mark Knopfler to write songs about men weeing on each other. I've been listening to "The Smell of Our Own" loads this week and it's such a joy.

i think 'brothers in arms' actually is about mark knopfler's boyfriend weeing on his shoulders. in an oblique way, all of his songs are about that
