Albums that have never been released on Vinyl?

Post by Trev » Mon Jul 13, 2015 11:27 am

Just curious, as I realised the first Standard Fare album was never released on vinyl. What others can people think of?

I guess both Pocketbooks albums spring to mind.

Any more?

I can think of a lot that I released to be fair:

Both One Happy Island LPs
The Rosie Taylor Project
The Wendy Darlings
The Blanche Hudson Weekend

There are few others I've thought of. A few early solo Darren Hayman records. And the Help Stamp Out Loneliness record.

Are we just talking pop albums? The Middle Ones first two (and the live tape) spring to mind, The Steinbecks one from last year as well, all Thee Ahs albums, etc...

Are you thinking of branching Odd Box out into the lucrative 180 gram vinyl reissue market? I suspect it's where the money is, though probably not so much with Thee Ahs as with Led Zeppelin box sets.

On a wider point, I've been listening to Kanye West recently and I was surprised that quite a few of his albums weren't released on vinyl. I suppose, given that he released his last one in a clear CD box with some red sticky tape on the edge, that these things don't bother him too much and he certainly doesn't need the money, but you can be sure someone's pressing up dodgy bootlegs of them, it seems a bit daft not to exploit the market.

Perhaps you could get them licensed to Oddbox? : )

Genuinely curious as to what missed out on a vinyl release.

No plans for Odd Box to branch out into reissues. Although Captured Tracks and Hozac both do archive release of old stuff that's not available these days.

It was more a nice thought than a genuine question. I'm well aware of what a money pit it would turn into : )

I do want to see Kanye on Oddbox though. A crowd puller for the weekender I reckon...

The first and final Gorkys LPs only came out on CD. I wish someone would do a decent series of reissues for them.

This is something I've long pondered as I gave away most of my CDs a few years ago but had to hold back

The Muffs - The Muffs (Surprised this one never appeared on vinyl through Sympathy for the Record Industry)
The Go-Nuts - World's Greatest Superhero Snak Rock and Gorilla Entertainment Revue
The Saturn V featuring Orbit - Having a Twist Party! With... and After Work Sessions!!!

I also turned down the opportunity to pick up Dorotea's We've Had Enough, Pt 2 at last year's Indietracks as it would have felt a betrayal to all the other CDs I'd given away.

So, if anybody would like to release super-expensive 180g reissues of the above you'll have at least one customer.

Thought Omnivore had given this a vinyl pressing with the recent expanded re-release, but their website seems to be kinda useless at giving me any details that i want. Maybe it was only cd after all :(

A billion years later I check this and, sadly, it was CD-only from Omnivore. :(x2
