This week has been all about:-

THE CHESTERF!ELDS - 'Electric Guitars In Their Hearts' CD
LIECHTENSTEIN - 'Stalking Skills' & 'Apathy' 7"s
THE MOTIFS - 'Away' CD
'One Kiss Can Lead To Another - Girl Group Sounds, Lost & Found' 4xCD box set
THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART CD
THE SCHOOL - 'Let It Slip' EP
THE STUPIDS - 'Peruvian Vacation' LP
THE SUMMER CATS - 'Lonely Planet' 7"
'Where The Girls Are' CD
One thing that we've known from the start
Deep down inside, we're punk rockers at heart

they're ace, them- the original EP was called something like 'India Remembers Elvis' or something

'His Latest Flame' is a particular belter- it's more than a novelty record, it's fucking skill (swearing for emphasis there)

I'm listening to 'My Suitor' by Berntholer (from Belgium), which is simply bloody marvellous, it's from the early eighties (1983) and sounds timeless and dead elegant and pretty and sad and rather overwhelming and I was entirely unaware of it until crystalball mentioned it to me earlier in the week (godbless her), James Nice's LTM have put out a cracking compilation-there's a biography of the band at the LTM website

Peel championed the 'My Suitor' single and it's been covered by, amongst other, Figurine (a rather lovely version too but it only really hints at the beauty of the original)

Cabaret Voltaire - Nag Nag Nag

I'm not sure this is the best thing to be listening to at work.

The Artisans, 'Jazz Serenade'

Never heard of them until ten minutes ago and then found them on Skatterbrain. Lovely.

I was coming here to post the same thing. That intro is *lovely*.

Did anyone see those Endless Bob Brown posts that Steve did on his Please Rain Fall blog? Not everything is to my taste but there's a song on there called 'I Like So Many Things' which is probably the least characteristic of all their songs and I love it so.

Good good! I don't find myself being excited by cloudberry releases very often but this time I have itchy ears beyond reason! That 7" is a killer and I really hope the 4, for me, new songs will be able to deliver just as much of an impact. GJ ROCKY!!!

New Kids on the Block - You've Got It (The Right Stuff)

The video for this song has the band chasing girls through a graveyard, so I matched the song up to the acid trip scene from Easy Rider and it actually works pretty well.

Left out of The Charlotte (closed), round towards The Phoenix (closed) opposite The Mud Club (closed), there was The Mag (demolished). A staff collective run by anarchists with a vegan cafe, art gallery in the upstairs room, and free condoms in the toilets. The accounts were done by a man named "Merlin" on a Jupiter Ace. They don't make pubs like that anymore!

T-Mobile hold music.

My girlfriend has called T-Mobile to cancel her phone contract, so they've put her on hold for hours with loads of terrible music to try and get her to hang up so they can keep having her money. She's put it on speakerphone so she can do normal things while she's holding; otherwise she'd starve to death.

And it's really terrible. The best thing all night has been Duffy.

The Go-Betweens - Right Here

I heard this at a gig the other night before the first band came on, and I knew it was The Go-Betweens from the singer's voice but I had never heard it, and it was one of those instant 'that's fucking brilliant' moments. Gah, how have I never heard this before?

The Go-Betweens are a strange band. It's taken me at least a year to get into them, but I can't get enough now. It just took a while to get past that slightly dated production a lot of their stuff has, I think.
