I got The Fairways' album "Is Everything All Right?" in the recent Matinee sale and here's a song from it, "Phthalo Blue". It's from the same show as the video of Dear Nora doing "Since You Went Away" that Rith posted here,

mecca normal's new album empathy for the evil.

i'd say that this and the previous album (the listener, 2006) are their best work, which is pretty amazing for a band of 30 years standing.

This was mentioned in the quiz thread the other day, so I got round to listening to it today and it's really very good indeed.

According to this, there's going to be some sort of physical release.

*strings out bunting*

However, according to this there probably isn't.

*puts it back in the box*

Probably best just to stick with listening to the ace songs...

Oh brilliant. The wife bought me that for my birthday some years back. Me and the wife and her best friend are ploughing through a list of 131 diy classics between 78 and 85 which some geek has put up, just google it, and I'm having to dip into the finances to fill in the gaps. Of course the wonderful Four Plugs made the list.

I'm also embarking on a cd of girl punk/post punk bands for our upcoming journey to Hay on Wye and am about to burn Unit 4 after this As Mercenarias track finishes.

Oh I wish you hadn't done that, it means I'll be scouring the web for hard copies, if they exist, of a good 70% of that comp.

Thanks for that link, I may be gone a while.

I'd love a copy of the Four Plugs single. That list is amazing, almost half I'd never heard before. My girlfriend bought me the Pink Flamingoes/Mike Malignant and the parasites split for christmas a few years ago ----->https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=p ... Xbg#t=1931 (<---that should play at the right moment) And then thoroughly regretted it as I played 'Oh Isn't It Wild' non stop for about a week. My current obsession from that list is 'Crumbo Crumbo Land' by Vic Serf AKA Jim from the Homosexuals. Complete madness from start to finish.

VIC GODARD & SUBWAY SECT - '1979 Now' CD
ST CHRISTOPHER - 'Forevermore Starts Here' 2xCD
TRICK MAMMOTH - 'Floristry' CD
One thing that we've known from the start
Deep down inside, we're punk rockers at heart

The Luxembourg Signal album is lovely and shimmery and catchy and I'm just off to listen to it again.

I'm four songs into the latest Simple Minds album and it's surprisingly good for a band of their age.

First new song by Rocketship in eight (count 'em) years, I believe! It's rather good n'all.

I started off this year with a resolution to buy fewer records, because I don't seem to have the time to listen to all the new stuff I've got as it is. Two albums and two 7" singles (ultimate extravagance!) later, this is all rather in tatters. Ah well, they'll look pretty at least. This is the first one to turn up anyway and it's rather good.

I'm still listening to The Bluebells compilation that came out last year. It really is awesome and its hard to fathom how none of this stuff got released before.

Some of them are poor quality recordings but the songs shine through. This is my favourite:

"and Valley Parade is showing all its finery"

Some great stuff on there. I wonder if Postcard would have signed them if they hadn't gone bust. But you are right about the quality. However it is not as poor as The Jazzateers (and who were also going to sign for Postcard) compilation Cherry Red also released. Some of it has been remastered so loud it's unlistenable but I guess that is the price given the age (and quality?) of the recordings.
