New Notts band, Born With Stripes. About 20 people saw them do an ace acoustic set in Nottingham last Friday.

This sounds like the little brother of Airport Girl's 'The Foolishness...'

Lovely lads, too.

That Lisa Ballentine track is dope, I'm gonna look into that.

I've just discovered The Goodees, who seem to be Shangri-Las wannabes (they have a biker death song and some other ill tracks), needless to say I ordered the CD immediately so I'll know more shortly.

it's a weirdly "meta" subject for a song, the very real possibility that nobody will hear it

I've been getting into Fursaxa lately. She's an experimental folk artist from Phili, and she has some of the best overdubbing ever. I seriously wish more people knew about overdub masters like Lau Nau, and Fursaxa. The vocals are eery, natural, and uplifting in some strange way.

Teen Canteen aren't that new to me since I was such a fan of their previous incarnation as Futuristic Retro Champions but I saw them live for the first time this weekend and they were reassuringly great. They're less electro-y than they used to be but importantly still write simple but beautifully melodic pop songs, as the only song available online shows - http://soundcloud.com/teencanteen/how-w

i ordered that this week, really looking forward to getting it. not quite clicked with the download, i like it but there's nothing that immediately hits me as being as ace as "be with me again tonight" from the 7". i'm sure i'll feel differently once the record arrives.

another excellent melbourne band (see the rather tenuous new melbourne jangle article), POP SINGLES are great, and their self-released lp all gone is leaps and bounds beyond their previous stuff. classic guitarry australiana.

Ha, I knew that you would be aware of them, Daniel! I was telling M the other day that this is a band that you would really like! I was so right :-) Initially I got them mixed up with english singles for some reason.

"classic guitarry australliana"!! you can't be more right - perfect description!!! They are brilliant, aren't they? First time I heard them I thought it was one of those lost bands of Summershine Records. Have you got their album? Is it still available?

PS: Whoahhh, it's amazing there is a new pop movement in Melbourne! Thanks a lot, D. You are a genius.
xxx
PS2: Loved how the reviewer recommends: Fans of The Go-Betweens should especially take note :-))
I slice the surface here beside you/Lungs filled liquid yell I love you/Sound moves further underwater
Deep and dark my submarine bells groan in greens and grey/Mine would chime a thousand times/To make you feel okay..
