Shameless style icon/inspiration pic posting

Post by let it ride » Mon Mar 24, 2008 10:27 pm

Hello ladies (and gentlemen)!

Now, they appear in the hair thread. They appear in the clothes thread. Deny it as much as we want, but we seem to be having some style icons.

I keep scrap books and things to keep track of looks I love that I don't want to forget. I do the same with saving pics on the computer in folders for inspiration. It's all about remembering what you love and not getting swept away by stuff that doesn't look good on you. Or me, rather. For me. You get what I mean. It's so helpful to keep you from crazy shopping!
My book looks like this:

I'm not saying you have to love someone's style all the time, but still. Here's a nice place to post pictures of things you like. Be it your personal style icons, be it just a random picture from a magazine or a still from a film.

Personally, the worst for me are pictures that are shot in a plain ol' studio with some model doing "interesting" and "wacky" poses. BO-RING. I want beautiful environments and where I can imagine a temperature, some type of weather, some kind of setting and life.

Characters in film and tv inspire me tons. So here's the first two pictures from me. I LOVE how well put together Taylor Momsen (who is FIFTEEN) looks here, as styled on the set of Gossip Girl. I absolutely love the coat and have been looking for something similar for a while, paired with that gorgeous scarf and the bracelets and... ahh, I just like it!

So go on! At least put some pictures of Zooey Deschanel up or something, I know you are all nuts for her!

I base mine on Gwar. Very easy to do.

What is going on with Taylor in those pictures by the way? One minute she's buying what looks like a normal hotdog, the next she appears to have substituted her finger for it. Madness.

Either way, accessorising with hot dogs is clearly the way forward.

I could have bet money on what would happen here. And it did! Sadly, no one would have taken my bet so I shall remain on my student budget.

And Taylor's on set, so I'd imagine her character is buying a hot dog... and then in a pause, the hot dog is removed and she got ketchup on her or something.

Anyway, I shall ignore the always repeated jokes (it doesn't matter where I post these type of threads, it's always the same joke, haha! I wonder if it's the same person? I can't remember) and keep on even if it's just for me. It's good as I'm away from home and I want to remember these pics. I mean the ones I posted.
Whitney Port (far right) is such a cutiepie. I heart her sense of style. It's always so fresh and romantic and fun, exactly the kind of stuff I love (but probably fail hard at achieving.)

Mariah looks exactly the same as she did in 1993, doesn't she? Although I think gold bomber jackets may have been passe even then.

your scrapbooking is really cute.

I love the shoes that she's wearing in that picture! I've become obsessed with t-straps.

what the hell is going on with that girl? in one picture she has a hot dog with a napkin around it and in the next picture she's holding a napkin around her finger. we are so on to her.

if i could look like anyone it would be mariska hargitay. and i want a badge too. this picture is from one of the many episodes where olivia gets called in to work while on a hot date. they never flat out say it but she's got the night off and they call her because of a last minute emergency and she shows up in a little black dress like vavavavavooom. it's implicit. i don't think they ever did but i want to see them show her actually on a date and her pager goes off and she and her date groan and drop their heads and make promises to do it next time. oh but maybe in her absence her date isn't sure he can handle a woman with such power and composure. it's a tough life for olivia.

Hee hee! How come Munch is never called in from a hot date?

In high school, I wanted to be Molly, but more often than not came out Ally:

that movie! every time I watch it, the dialog makes me cringe a little more, but I still love it. I had the biggest crush on Judd Nelson. I always wanted to be Ally! dunno why. I remember I sewed myself a big black bag like hers and kept a pile of junk in it.

I hate to be predictable, but I think most people know I love '50s and '60s style. There are too many people to actually list them all, but I've narrowed it down to...

Audrey Hepburn

Zooey Deschanel

Sometimes, when the mood takes me, I aim to dress a bit like any of the following three.

Beat Happening:

Jack Kerouac

and Fugazi (couldn't find a good pic of the whole band)

That might just be a way of saying that I don't like clothes much though. Really I'm just into stuff that isn't branded or tacky and looks somewhat timeless.

I watched Pushing Daisies last night for the first time and I thought Anna Friel looked particularly cute and lovely. Damnit, she's making me think about dying my hair back to dark, although it was mainly the peachy dress and pink cardigan I was lusting after.

She's far from being my style icon, but I think these recent photos of Lily Allen are adorable. The only thing she's got wrong here is those awful earrings, but I'll let her off because I like her new hair and sunglasses so much (oh, and those Chanel style shoes!)
