She's not smiling! She's really sad! I got that picture from an article about some schools being closed down. Poor wee mite! No more school! It's heartbreaking.

The eyes aren't upset. The lips are almost pouting. She's going to have to stay at home hatching evil plans. I bet she's GUTTED.

Yeah.. the tear is kind of coming out the wrong side of her eye too. Pouting, evil plans, manipulative displays of emotion.... she's still a lot like me. Only I can't carry off a fringe like that.

The more I look at it, the more I'm convinced it's not a tear, merely sweat from a hard days logging.

If every man would learn to dress and coiff (sp?) exactly like The Zombies and all the French youths at this Zombies appearance, even those not as (incredibly, incredibly, DELICIOUSLY, gorgeously, orgasmically) perfect as Colin Blunstone, the world would be a heavenly smorgasbord for my eyes (and, you know other bits of me):

And, yes, all I've done for this past hour at work is watch Zombies videos. Thank heavens it's lunch time--I'm so fatigued now.

But we can't all just coiff (!) like that! I bloody wish I could and it's not for lack of trying. Thinking about fashion and hair and those things just makes me sad then angry then sad.
the trouble with personalities, they're too wrapped up in style
it's too personal; they're in love with their own guile

yeah! i am uncoiffable and all. that lead singer chap appears to be wearing somekind of transfer printed black sweatshirt. do you want me to wear a transfer printed black sweatshirt? i could manage that.

on the plus side all those people in that video are either dead or horribly decrepid and infirm. ha.
When the people are being beaten with a stick, they are not much happier if it is called 'the People's Stick.'

Don't be sad/angry/sad... just remain aloof :) I remember when it wasn't cool to be vain. Wanting to look attractive is normal but it's all been co-opted, along with everything else in existence, into one of the more successful vehicles for capitalism. I don't know whether it's good or bad that everyone can afford fashionable clothes now at places like Primark... it seems to have raised the bar in terms of what's acceptable for people to wear day to day. There's no excuse to be wearing old or unfashionable clothes. But what if you're not all that interested? Even if the clothes ARE cheap maybe you'd rather wear what you've already got and buy some records instead?

As for coiffure, I dunno, it makes good photos but IRL tends to make me think the person is a self regarding tit... :-/ apologies to the coiffed.

I'm convinced that in the 80s people wore shabbier clothes and it wasn't such a big deal what everyone was wearing all the time. Or was that because I was 5? Any thoughts?

Hmm. I'm not sure about that. I don't think there are that many people who look sharp nowadays. More's the pity.

As for people dressing down in the 80s...

yeah.. i know there was a lot of dressing up in the eighties. i didn't mean people necessarily look good now - just that it seems to be more acceptable to spend loads of money and time on your looks... i'm sure that used to be seen as vanity, which was considered A Bad Thing, and it seems like we don't really have that concept anymore.

like i said i'm not really taking a moral stand one way or the other. it's not nice to have to wear clothes that are worn out and ugly because you can't afford to buy new ones.

oh and i forget that not everywhere is like brighton :-/ sorry. brighton is a bit too cool for school... there's lots of people who've clearly put a lot of thought into their "look".

I like how that guy at the back looks like he's not playing along, unless he's wearing something outlandish that I can't quite see.
No trousers. That's his secret.
Q: I know you are, but what am I?
A: A garbage man.

Like fuck you can't coiff! "Oh WAH, my supersonic, near-psychobilly height quiff is a millimeter short today-WAAH!"

Colin is wearing an Shlitz sweatshirt with perfectly tailored, buttock-cupping, narrow trouser--it's the height of "ha ha rawwwther St. Alban's school boy slumming it to dance with the French petite Bourgeoisie" fashion irony. Add to that perfectly timed lip-biting over fucked-up English teeth and lawd help me, I'm sticking to my chair.

Well, yes, the guitarist died of some horrible cancer a few years ago, leaving his wife or 30+ years (name-checked in The Zombies "Friends of Mine") and children behind, if that makes you feel any better. And Colin looks pretty much like a slightly more effeminate Bea Arthur.

And, David, you can to coiff! Lookie those curly, flowing locks. You're like a damned Breck girl.
