It can't be that dire, can it be? At least one can get cute trainers (though I know that's not your style).

It's even worse for men over here. I go to DSW (a massive discount shoe warehouse) and can easily walk out of there with at least five pairs of fabulous shoes for REALLY cheap. Meanwhile, the men are left to scour their 5 rows to our 50 and all they get are Reagan-era penny loafers and clunky Sketchers half-trainers/half-work shoes.

It's been dire ever since I can remember. I used to go shoe shopping, not be able to find anything and get another pair of DMs. Now I go shoe shopping, can't find anything and get another pair of chelsea boots.

Most men's shoes come in one of three kinds of DO NOT WANT:
  • Ass-ugly winkle pickers
  • Ass-ugly chunky things with huge square toes
  • Incredibly tedious brogues
I'm looking for a pair of lace-up dress boots at the moment, which I thought would be a fairly reasonable request. They are seemingly very unfashionable and like hen's teeth. I found a couple of pairs that unfortunately also fell into the first two categories above.

This is the nearest I could find, I might end up getting these if I can get them in black:

The annoying thing is that I already have a pair in pretty much the style I want, but they were cheap crap and are now worn out.
As wrong as it was to do,

Try searching for brands like crockett and jones, grenson and trickers on e-bay. They are normally super expensive, but there are a few sellers who get slight factory seconds relatively cheap. i'm going to post my dream boot again, still can't afford it...

I got these ridiculous shoes today. Well actually I was bought them - hurrah! They're probably an acquired taste and I suspect I am also too old to wear them, but sod it.

Are you kidding me? Those are gorgeous! Very Sonia Rykiel, which is a good thing. Bright, classic, cute! Excellent choice, missy.

Somehow, by the way, I managed to work heels suddenly. Not very high, or stilettos or anything, but I can walk in them all night and I don't feel bad. Huh! As long as they are t-bar or lace-up, something that holds on a little bit to the foot, it seems to work! I'm surprised. I don't like to wear them much, as I feel uncomfortable being so incredibly tall (I am well over 6' in just low heels).

So my shoe collection are still just 2 pairs of heels, one pair of red t-bars, one pair of patent lace-up booties. (haha booties!) And about 50 - 60 pairs of flat shoes, ahem. I just can't throw them out!

I broke in these M&S shoes today, well started to, at least! Very comfortable so far. I love flat sandals.

I love those, Gina! I've totally fondled those on some recent trips to Office. There's a pair of shiny salmon-colored kitten heel t-bars that I'm DYING for but I can't find them on the web site. I've seen them at the Covent Garden Office. I bet they're on clearance. Damn.

I got these bargain shoes on eBay and they're so comfy and cute! I think they came to around £10 including postage. I've spotted them in a cream colour too, so I'll have to resist temptation even though I'm obsessed with white/cream shoes.

OMG, those in cream?! <3 <3 <3 Yes, I've got to give eBay UK a search.

Does anyone know if the UK has a version of Zappos? It's a big online shoe warehouse (and other clothing now apparently) which usually has discounts on shoes from being overstock.

i need some new boots. i had to throw my old ones away last winter despite multiple re-soles, the toes ended up with holes in which in sheffield is NO GOOD.

i have seen a couple of pairs on the office website that look okay, and have been browsing schuh but im going to go and need to try obviously cos my calfs are funny shapes for boots.

not looking forward to it.

i at least need some new shoes, even if i cant find boots.

Yeah - 30 quid! It is dangerous having an M&S with a massive cheap shoe range near my work.

I caved and ordered these Kurt Geiger's online yesterday. They've arrived this morning and I do adore them but the lacing is for show - you can't tighten them without creatig a bulky crease of leather underneath - and they are typically HUGE around my ankles/lower legs. Oh. I really wish I could find some boots that didn't gape! I still think I'm gonna keep them because they are really comfortable and a lovely colour and look lovely under trousers or possibly would be alright with skinny jeans tucked into them. Maybe?

They're ace! What about wearing some thick woolly tights with them, in cream or something maybe?
