I caved and ordered these Kurt Geiger's online yesterday. They've arrived this morning and I do adore them but the lacing is for show - you can't tighten them without creatig a bulky crease of leather underneath - and they are typically HUGE around my ankles/lower legs. Oh. I really wish I could find some boots that didn't gape! I still think I'm gonna keep them because they are really comfortable and a lovely colour and look lovely under trousers or possibly would be alright with skinny jeans tucked into them. Maybe?

They're ace! What about wearing some thick woolly tights with them, in cream or something maybe?

They are gorge! I agree with the woolly tights idea too, very cute for winter!

i have seen a couple of pairs on the office website that look okay, and have been browsing schuh but im going to go and need to try obviously cos my calfs are funny shapes for boots.
I feel yr pain. I dread the cold weather because I have a million pairs of shoes but only like 3 pairs of boots but winter calls for them when you just wear skirts and tights every day. Ugh. And finding flat boots is impossible. As is finding white or red boots (which are the colour of shoes I wear most often). I wear flats everyday (except a bit of a heel at the office) but just can never find flat boots that suit my style. I don't like riding boots, slouchy boots, pointy boots, or boots with overly complicated bits, bobs, zips, and various accoutrements on them. Ugh! Why is is so hard to find classic, simple, streamlined boots (among other fashion items!)?!?

exactly!! im so fussy when it comes to boots.. theyve got to be plain black leather, basically flat, def no zips or tassles or ties.. im just going to have to have a wander and see what fits and doesnt look ridiculous on. i might even end up plumping for some plain shoes if i struggle too much.. all i know is i need something sensible for winter!

I know exactly what you mean, I've been trying to find a decent pair of plain, calf-length flat boots, which don't look chunky and unflattering for ages and it's nigh on impossible. I've always had to settle for boots with a bit of slouch or a low heel because there appears to be no other option...

If only I could make my own shoes, dag nammit.

so far potentials include:

http://www.office.co.uk/womens/office/b ... /1?fs=5657

http://www.office.co.uk/womens/office/c ... 8/19566/1/

http://www.schuh.co.uk/junior-black-sch ... 528047020/

i think the second ones may even be the pair of boots that i had and quite liked before i ruined them, but that heel is tricky for me cos i walk on my heels, so anything thats rounded means i slip and fall all over the place.. altho having said that, once i had a bit more of a heel put on at a shoe place they were fine. they were quite slouchy tho, but nicely versatile.

I'm hoping that will work...the gap is several inches but I'm hoping it looks kinda cute rather than just baggy. I know I'm not skinny but my ankles are tiny so boots are always a bit of a trauma. But I love 'em. I get boot lust every winter and it pains me that I find it so hard to find any that fit right!

You don't know me, I don't know you (makes sense since I'm new here) but I think the third boots are the cutest!

Finding the right pair of riding style boot, in non-leather, which is just right is IMPOSSIBLE. I've been hunting for months! Something like this:

But not in leather, and hopefully with some sort of warm lining but without looking clunky or 80s. BAH.

i'm having such trouble finding decent boots as well. the ones i got last year are almost perfect (apart from the slouchy thing) but they're totally falling apart now. the only reason i'm still wearing them is because they're warm and i have no other warm winter shoes. i'm gonna see about getting them resoled/reheeled and hoepfully i'll get a bit more wear out of them.

all i want is some plain, flat, calf length boots that aren't all chunky/big/wide. i can't believe that until last year, i always just wore flats or flats with socks in the winter. i'd freeze if i did that now.

I bought these boots at the end of September and have been living in them ever since. They're incredibly comfortable, waterproof (after spraying them with some stuff, at least) and go with pretty much everything I own.

I too struggle with finding flat boots, because I need some kind of support in the soles, not just completely flat otherwise it chucks my back right out. These ones are spot on.

That's actually what I was looking for shoes for!

There really are some horrible shoes out there at the moment! But those ones above take the biscuit.
