Does anyone know where to find a good bustier? I don't mean one of those lace ones that one could wear when trying too hard to sex someone up, but a plain one that can be tightened really hard. I need it to wear under some dresses which have got really tight and high waists. I want it to cover my boobs but not have cups, it needs to be boned and have laces at the back. And not be too expensive. Any suggestions?

Decent corsets don't come cheap, unfortunately. I got my first proper one in the sale from what katie did (http://www.whatkatiedid.com/fes_php/fes ... ey=Default" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)and i love it to bits but the shape at the top means it doesn't work with some dresses. I also have a vollers underbust corset which I can wear under pretty much anything. I've only done so a couple of times though as it feels so very dressed up and I'm not a very dressed up sort of person usually. The only cheap corsets I've seen have been too flimsy to do much good so I would avoid thm personally.
Give over.

Astrid, your anorak name and the title of this thread made me feel a momentary virtual wedgie.

Hahahah! DO NOT let the underwear ride PLZ.

That's actually one of my worst feelings. Hates it. That's one great thing about winter and tights: It just KEEPS THAT UNDERWEAR in place, doesn't it? Mmmm. Also I imagine it "holds me in" a bit. I refuse to use like spanx or something although I could probably do with them, but the tights are as close as I get.

OH also I found the least sexy but most useful non-normal bra today: the nude/beige strapless! HURRAH! This opens up so many more options in my wardrobe for awesomeness clothes-wise. Yay.

you know what's been bugging me A LOT lately? is that 99% of bras are made with that weird foam padding stuff. does anybody actually like that? it's so unsexy and just...weird. why is it so hard to get a normal bra that's also pretty but doesn't have any foam to shape it or whatever. i've got some nice ones from topshop that are like that but it's not common to find them.

this has pissed me off before too so i'm probably repeating myself, but man, it's worth repeating because it sucks!

yeah! it's like they just assume you want your boobs to look bigger and unnatural and weird. i wish i'd stocked up on those topshop bras that were pretty and functional and NOT PADDED!

I also used to like Topshop for it's non-padded junk bras. I went yesterday and there weren't any. This is quite tragic.

However, Intimissimi is my favorite underwear shop and they can be pretty good for non-padded bras. They've opened up one in London which I'm going to head down to next week which is much more convenient than going to Italy.

Here's the website. The current collection isn't that great. It's usually in the spring when they go all a bit twee.

There's even a film on the site. It's low on plot and high on cleavage.

Undercolors of Benetton is also good for having nice non-padded bras. Also hard to find outside of Italy but the huge Benetton on Regent Street in London usually carries a decent stock.

I'm not travelling two hours to London just to buy underwear. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Yeah, I don't need anything that has "Padded" or "Push-Up" in the name. I've taken to wearing sports bras for everyday stuff just because I'm tired of every top either looking pornographic or like maternity wear.

I can remember being self-conscious because all of my friends developed before I did. I was quite small-breasted and jealous during my adolescent and teen years. What a fool I was.

I bought a couple sports bras in July to use because I had some surgical openings that regular bras were pressing up against, and I've worn them pretty much constantly since. They're much better for not making blouses and cardigans look like they're about to pop open.

That stupid padding that is in every bra no matter what size is ridiculous. Not everyone wants to look like she has a bigger chest.

Yup, Calvin Klein is great. But it's a tad overpriced in England. There's a Calvin Klein underwear shop in the York outlet mall but I've yet to find anything very nice. They seem to only get the duds and I've yet to ever manage a matching set in my size. I guess that happens at outlet stores.

I'm all about slips these days. I love the ones at Urban Outfitters (http://tinyurl.co.uk/oe93" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) but can't find anywhere else with a good selection. Any ideas?

Are slips very in right now? I needed one a couple years ago for a dress and had no luck finding one anywhere.

I bet it's Gossip Girl making them all popular. Those girls are never not inbetween outfits sitting around in slips.

I don't know. I bought one to wear underneath a really thin vintage dress and was hooked. You can buy rather old lady looking ones at M&S. Urban Outfitters is the only place I've seen nice ones.

I don't really get some of the ones that they sell though as they don't look particularly functional. I guess they are for 'lounging' or for layering a couple together.

Yeah, a few of the ones at Urban Outifitters look like the patterns would show or the material would be lumpy underneath a dress.

But it's very exciting that nonfrumpy slips are available! I think I ended up borrowing one from a friend's mother last time. It worked, but it wasn't cute at all.
