8tracks
Anyone else use this? It is sort of the successor to Muxtape. Streaming internet mixes. My profile is http://8tracks.com/valleyofthebees. If you are really clever and wildly unethical you can figure out how to download songs off it. I have 22 mixes up right now on it. This mix, in particular, entitled "Anorak City" is relevant to this forum, but this one, that one, this other one and finally this final one of mine I would also recommend! If you have one you should 'follow me' and I'll follow you back.

Re: 8tracks
Just discovered this and was surprised it's not more widely-used - very clean and easy functionality, and lets you put whatever you want in a mix because you upload the MP3s (not reliant on Spotify or whoever having it in their library!). Very impressed - but this was one of only a couple of posts I could find mentioning it. Best attempt to put the mixtape concept online I've yet seen, I think.
Noticed it through indietracks plugging this mix: http://8tracks.com/milquetoaster/ten-re ... id=1269789
(I'm here: http://8tracks.com/johnkell - only a couple of things up so far)

Re: 8tracks
I quite like 8tracks, until I use the iPhone app and it yells at me for skipping too many songs. Then I get annoyed and turn it off.
Nice idea though.

Re: 8tracks
you've probably heard all this before (or perhaps didn't want to hear any of it the first place): http://8tracks.com/fogofohdears/fogofoh ... -mix-thing
anyhoo, I thought I'd give it a go and see what's what, it's easy to use even for a doofus like me

Re: 8tracks
Oooh, I like this, but it's quite a slow process putting a mix together. I've just made a 16 tracker of Brighton based stuff including The Blue Minkies, The Grooveyard, The Friendly Fires, The Chefs, Shrag...

(Apologies for the cheesy title.)
I was listening to (and thoroughly enjoying) Andy's mix as I pottered around earlier, but was really surprised that he'd included a One Republic love song. I didn't realise it takes you to another mix as soon as one's finished. Durr!

Re: 8tracks
I think it's a great site, unfortunately the biggest drawback is not being able to keep the tracklisting order, which is sometimes key in a mix! It can get tedious putting a mix together although the 'uploader' featrure does make uploading a breeze.
Some hints I've found: Keep the tracks to a minimum to hold the listener's interest. Also a great suggestion from another 8tracks user was to post your tracklisting under comments. Sometimes you just want to know what's on the mix.
AND it's always fun trying to come up with a cover.
I'll have to visit everyone else's on here!

p.s. get on it, linus! :)

Re: 8tracks
Top tip about adding the tracklist. I've now added it to mine.
I'm listening to Everard's 'Blah Blah Blah' right now and it's pretty great! I just wish I had more time to listen to music...

Re: 8tracks
I'd completely forgotten I'd made a mix on there until you all started befriending me! Once my life stops being ridiculous, I'll listen to everyone's mixes. Can't wait.

I wasn't plugging the festival as such, just trying to make people I know see how good it was so I wouldn't have to go alone. Completely unsucessful!
anyway - http://8tracks.com/milquetoaster - that's me.
five to six, that's what the time is.

Well I'd go alone if I was even lucky enough to have an opportunity to go! There's still time to convince someone to go with you :)Tweetotal wrote:I made that one!johnkell wrote:

Speaking of Indietracks, I downloaded the comp and fell in love with A Fine Day Of Sailing's 'Orange Crate Imagination'. Never heard any of their music before. Better late than never!
It inspired a summery mix of sunshine pop on 8tracks.

Re: 8tracks
Four years later, who's still on the site?
I'm at http://8tracks.com/fallenlove
I'm making a series of one-hour indiepop mixes that I upload twice a week. The initial goal was to introduce my friends to indiepop since most of them are clueless about it. Of course none of them could be bothered to listen to any of my mixes so now I just make them for myself and any randoms who might stumble upon them.

Re: 8tracks
I've not tried it but as it looks like I'm going to be bed bound for a few weeks it may be something good to do when I get out of the hospital.
