According to my Tumblr which I'm shamelessly promoting and linking to in this very sentence, I am very much enjoying:

Colleen Green - I Want To Grow Up
Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly
The Go! Team - The Scene Between

The new Star Tropics single on Bandcamp represents the highpoint of the year for me so far. Beautiful. Loved the Haiku Salut/Jilk collaboration mentioned also.

'Goon' by Tobias Jesso jr is by far and away my favourite album of the year so far. It's sort of been how I used to love music, by hammering the same album dozens of times in a week. It's simple, it's gorgeous and every song on it is a winner.

Getting on now for the point where I'm unlikely to hear any more new records until Christmas Day, I thought it was time to resurect this thread. I'm not entirely comfortable with the notion of making end of years lists (I suspect my motivations regarding my choices a bit), but not having one last year felt like a symbol of the barren internet wasteland that Anorak had (and continues to) become.

As such, I feel it's my duty to attempt to bring about some communal action and persuade myself that this is all still remotely viable as an internet community. Think of the resurection of this thread as my insecurities regarding the continuation of Anorak made digital.

Anyway, these were my favourite LPs:

Trust Fund - "No One's Coming For Us"
Thee Ahs - "Names"
Cat's Eyes - "The Duke Of Burgundy" soundtrack

Smile Down Upon Us - 2nd LP
Tender Prey - "Organ Calzone"
Joanna Gruesome - "Peanut Butter"
The Drink - "Company"*
Nat Johnson - "Neighbour Of The Year"*
Sleuth - "Out Of The Blue Period"

* = late enough last year to be shoehorned into his year's list I think

And these were my favourite singles of one sort or another (not on those albums):

Grimes - "REALiTi"
Nat Johnson - "The Magpie's Campaign" & "Condor"
Faith Healer - "Again"

Julia Holter - "Feel You"
Holly Herndon - "Chorus"
Couples Counselling - "Sad Choir"
Chorugirl - "No Moon"
Leaf Library - "Rings Of Saturn"

These are a few odds and ends scattered through some other records that I liked but didn't quite make the cut for one reason or another:

Tufthunter - "The Wrong Girls"
Belle and Sebastian - "Ever Had A Little Faith"
Darren Hayman - "A Death Song"
Twerps - "Shoulders"
Sleater Kinney - "Price Tag"

Wildhoney - "Sleep Through It"
Camera Shy - "Take Your Time"
Model Village - "Claude Loves Marcel"

And these are some of the reissues I enjoyed this year:

Dexys Midnight Runners - "Don't Stand Me Down"
Broadcast - "Tender Buttons"
Françoise Hardy - Early albums

Leaf Library - "Different Activities, Similar Diversions"
The Specials - "More Specials" 2CD

Am waiting on Two White Cranes and Grimes but will get them at Christmas. Just got Knife Pleats but haven't really listened to it much yet, though it sounds good. Just got some other stuff as well. I probably should have waited a bit. Bugger.

Keen to hear whether those who put stuff up in the spring are still listening to those albums now.

These are the albums I've played a LOT this year, in vaguely descending order of excellence:

Frankie Machine - Frankie Machine Has Been Shipwrecked on a Desert Island
Trust Fund - No One's Coming For Us / Seems Unfair
John Carpenter - Lost Themes
Jeff Bridges - Sleeping Tapes
Belle & Sebastian - Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance
Two White Cranes - Radisson Blue
Mammoth Penguins - Hide and Seek
Low - Ones and Sixes

Honorable mentions for the last two Radiator Hospital albums (Something Wild and Torch Song), which came out in 2014 but I didn't hear them til this year - I've listened to those an obscene amount.

My favourite non-album song is probably Martha's 'Six Men Getting Sick Six Times (Mendable)'.

Hermits On Holiday - Drinks
Lesser Pop - Frozy
More Heat! More Panic! The Manhattan Love Suicides

I really like the Darren Hayman one, but I just don't seem to listen to it very much. I do keep coming back to it from time to time though.

As for Trust Fund...SACRILIGE : )

I pretty much stopped listening to the first Trust Fund album when the second one came out (temporarily, I'm sure), but I still have 'Cut Me Out' stuck in my head about 96% of the time.

Chants For Socialists is probably my favourite of the three (or four, if you include the dub version) albums Darren's released this year!

The School - Wasting Away And Wondering
....

FFS S/T - whatever you think of Franz Ferdinand, to me it's just Sparks with a super tight backing band. And it's bloody marvellous.

Belle & Sebastian - Girls In Peacetime... - their best album since the Jeepster days, easy. Fuck, who was expecting this? Astonishing.

Simon Love - It Seemed Like A Good Idea... - his best after 15 years in the biz. Lovely and laugh-out-loud funny!

Need to think of more...

Bang The Drum by the Maureens. I think they're Dutch and if you love Teenage Fanclub you should like them.

Get the first lp too. Brilliant powerpop, trust me.

Garden of Elks - A Distorted Sigh
Darren Hayman - Chants for Socialists
Pins - Wild Nights

The Spook School - Try To Be Hopeful
A New International - Come To The Fabulon
Two White Cranes - Radisson Blue

Chills : Silver Bullets, possibly my favourite lp of the year...............................almost wrestled to the floor by Beat The Champ by the Mountain Goats............gently nudged by Bang The Drum by the Maureens...............tickled gently below by Why Choose by Shopping................almost shoved aside by El Fin Del Mundo by Cola Jet Set................confronted by Have You In My Wilderness by Julia Holter............nearly upended by Wild Nights by the Pins............and then follows a whole host of other pretenders including efforts by Courtney Barnett, Twerps, the School, Richard Hawley, Hermit Crabs, Fireworks, Spook School, Death Cab For Cutie, To Kill A King, Milky Wimpshake and Tigercats.

It's take me a long time to come around to, but over the last few days I've really started to enjoy this. Had a bit of a second wind with the Model Village album as well since I got the tape in. And the Grimes album rules as well, although it's perhaps a bit late for me to assess it as a keeper.

I just did all this too early, basically. Impatient...
