I Love Birds Me

Post by Big Nose » Tue Jul 01, 2008 20:48

Sid, my cockatiel is basically awesome. Much better than my cat (who is lovely, just so dull), my goldfish (5 years old now, but also dull) and my loach, Ken, who is mildly entertaining but mostly just hides in his cave hideaway I bought him.

My life has been enriched by many, many daily spirited renditions of Pop Goes The Weasel, singalong-a-Eastenders theme tune sessions, really shrill squawking when he hears sirens and general cockatiel related shenanigans (he had a shit on my spaghetti the other day). When he dies (he's 18 now) I am totally buying a parrot so I can teach it a rather less annoying song and to say amusing sweary words to my elderly aunt. And not to shit in my food.

Birds are ace, ones that can talk, sing tunes and sit on my shoulder thus partially fulfilling a lifelong pirate related fantasy are even acer.

Hooray for birds!
My apple pies go off today.

Birds! I bought a dress with little green birds on it today. I believe they are seagulls.

Those of you who know about Pepe the Parrot who used to live behind me may be sad to hear that Pepe up and moved away. He didn't even say goodbye.

Budgies! So cute. My mother had a parakeet when she was younger. It was named "Snowball Snowgirl Snowpuff Pretty Girl Phillips".

I suppose this is where I could tell (again) the story about my budgie committing suicide for anyone who hasn't heard it before.

That's the one! I'm trying not to overwear it, but I love it so much.

I love birds! I would really like a parrot one day, an African Grey ideally. At the moment the only birds I share my life with are chickens and ducks but they're fantastic, it really completes the garden to have ducks waddling about.

I love birds. At the moment I'm particularly liking the Screech Owl.

I'm a fan of the burrowing owls we have in Florida. They were my university's mascot. I've never seen one, but I have seen a burrow or two.

I was walking across Lady Bay Bridge on my way to work this morning, and walking alongside me, right down the middle of the road, were two massive swans with four baby swans. They were in absolutely no rush at all, and were holding the traffic up both ways. It was ace.

They looked like they'd duff you up if you came near them, mind.

I'm a big Puffin fan. They burrow too. At the scottish seabird centre you can watch them on remote-controllable CCTV. It's nuts.

The bar on St Kilda is called the Puff Inn. I'd quite like to get over and see all the puffins and all, but it's bloody expensive to get there.

I didn't realise I was a puffin fan until my second trip to the Scottish Seabird Centre this June. They're like brightly coloured bird-rodents. Amazing. Also they affectionately knock their beaks together as a bonding ritual. And they look funny when they fly.

Sid died this afternoon. Rather harrowing it was too, as he basically fell off his perch then slowly slipped away. My kids were horrified. The empty cage mocks me now, and I miss his singing like mad already.

My condolences, BN. Will you be getting a replacement, or is it too early to say?

Cheers. Am not sure if we'll replace him. He was such a character I am not sure if he's replacable. He was 19 years old. Thats older than my kids.
