BBC Radio Ballads

Post by crystalball » Tue Nov 04, 2014 10:15

I'm getting slightly obsessed with the Radio Ballads, and particularly the very first one, 'The Ballad of John Axon'
The first of the Radio Ballads, The Ballad of John Axon concerns a steam-locomotive driver from Stockport, posthumously awarded the George Cross for an act of heroism in 1957 when he refused to abandon his runaway train and saved lives at the expense of his own.
They're all out as a set but it's 60 quid. Gah.

Who can tell me things about this then please?

I've had one or two from the library, I can't remember which ones, it was quite a while ago., but I did enjoy them. I don't know much about them but there were some modern ones made a few years ago that were played on the radio.
